Product Description

CETCO Organoclays are proprietary adsorption medias highly effective in removing oils, greases and other high molecular weight/low solubility organics. Organoclays are specially modified sorbents altered to an organophilic state making them attractive to organic molecules.

CETCO Organoclays mitigate organic contaminant transport into waterways. It's adsorptive capacity reduces required thickness compared to in situ sand caps. Organoclay's adsorptive capability provides a sub-aqueous chemical isolation of contaminated sediment mitigating organic contaminant transport into the waterway and has a high capacity for low-soluble organics provides treatment for NAPL, oils and grease extending cap life and reducing overall costs. Organoclay functions as an active treatment layer within a cap to reduce the overall cap thickness required when compared to a conventional sand cap.

Applications

CETCO Organoclays are applied as flow through media for treating groundwater and leachate. Applied in fixed bed vessels or disposable cartridges, they can be used as a pre-treatment to granular activated carbon (GAC) and increase overall efficiency by preventing surface pores from blinding caused by oils, greases and other less water soluble organics.

Organoclay® PM-199 - Organic Adsorption Media

Organoclay® is a proprietary granular adsorption media effective in removing oils, greases other non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPL) and other dissolved high molecular weight/low solubility organics. Organoclay PM-199 is specially formulated for use in the following applications:

  • Organophilic Filtration Media: as flow through media for treating groundwater and leachate
  • Organoclay Bulk Capping: provides subaqueous chemical isolation of contaminated sediment NAPL seeps in waterways.
  • Solidification/Stabilization additive: improves hydraulic and leachability performance of pozzolanic mixes by adsorbing NAPL and dissolved low solubility organics

Benefits of Utilizing Organoclay® PM-199

  • As filtration media used in series prior to activated carbon vessel, it extends life and adsorbency of activated carbon by removal of larger molecular organics that can cause fouling.
  • Operates in stand-alone mode for treatment of oil contaminated waters or steam condensates.
  • High adsorption capacity of oils, greases and other NAPL

Organoclay® PM-200 - Organic Adsorption Media

Organoclay PM-200 is a granular media that is highly effective in adsorbing organic compounds, particularly non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs), dissolved polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Organoclay PM-200 is specially formulated for use in the following applications:

  • Bulk active in situ sediment capping
  • Permeable reactive barriers

Benefits of Utilizing Organoclay® PM-200

  • Coarser particle size than standard CETCO Organoclay® which may:
  • Aid in settling through water column when placing bulk active in-situ sediment cap
  • Better match particle size of coarse inert soil for better intermixing in use of permeable reactive barrier

Organoclay® MRM - Organic Adsorption & Mercury Sequestration Media

Organoclay MRM is a proprietary granular filtration media that adsorbs non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPL) and dissolved low solubility organics, as well as sequesters all forms of mercury and arsenic from water. Organoclay MRM is a chemically modified version of Organoclay PM-199 media which can be applied in thick layers over sediments. . Organoclay MRM is specially formulated for use in the following applications:

  • Ideal for use in sediment caps or other remediation applications where metals are present in addition to organic contaminants, such as;
    • Groundwater remediation
    • Solidification/Stabilization additive
    • Sediment in situ capping

Benefits of Utilizing Organoclay® MRM

  • Can sequester mercury in the presence of dissolved organic compounds without blinding/fouling. (Pretreatment with pure organoclay recommended for high concentrations of NAPL).
  • Effective on four forms of mercury: methyl mercury, Hg0, Hg+1 and Hg+2 as well as As+5
  • Converts mercury to low toxicity species which are insoluble in water
  • Mercury sequestration capacity up to 1% by weight (depends upon waste stream characteristics)

Organoclay® F

Organoclay F is a proprietary granular filtration media that reliably absorbs oil and similar organics from water. It is a brown and black mixture of 30% active Organoclay and 70% anthracite filter media, which allows for maximum utilization of the large sorption capacity of Organoclay without excessive pressure build-up in the column. Organoclay F is specially formulated for use in the following applications:

  • Groundwater pump and treat
  • Sediment dewatering treatment

Benefits of Utilizing Organoclay® F

  • Extends life and absorbency of activated carbon by removal of larger molecular organics.
  • Operates in stand-alone mode for treatment of oil contaminated waters or steam condensates.
  • Lowers overall operating cost relative to utilizing activated carbon alone.

Organoclay® SS-199 - Organic Adsorption Media

Organoclay SS-199 is a semi-granular adsorption media effective in removing oils, greases other non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPL) and other dissolved high molecular weight/low solubility organics. Organoclay SS-199 is specially formulated for use in the following applications:

  • Solidification/stabilization additive: improves compressive strength and leachability performance of pozzolanic mixes by adsorbing NAPL and dissolved low solubility organics
  • Low hydraulic conductivity by chemically adsorb and immobilize NAPL

Benefits of Utilizing Organoclay® SS-199

  • For use in soil or sediment solidification/stabilization as an additive to Portland cement
  • Helps stabilize organics for increased solidification of treated soils and sediment
  • Medium adsorption capacity of oils, greases and other NAPL
